From a Spanish dream to Costa E-bikes

We are Hans and Jolanda van Ginkel. We have now been living in Spain for over two years and look back with great pleasure on the step we took together. What once started as a long-cherished dream to live abroad has grown into a new life and a wonderful company: Costa E-bikes.

We have been together for 40 years and have two daughters, who still live in the Netherlands. Hans dreamed of a life abroad ever since he was eighteen. When we met, those plans changed temporarily. We built a beautiful life together in the Netherlands, with our family, relatives, and friends.

In early 2023, the moment arrived when Jolanda also felt she was ready for a new adventure. The decision to move to Spain was made, and from that moment on, things moved quickly. We began researching various regions and visited the areas around Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa several times. We wanted not only to find a beautiful place, but above all an environment where we could truly feel at home.

We got in touch with Ruud through a Facebook group, who told us a lot about the area and the emigration process. During our first meeting, naturally on a terrace as is customary in Spain 😉, we immediately felt welcome. After several visits to the region, we knew for sure: Orihuela Costa had to become our new home base.

At the end of March 2024, we emigrated to Spain.

Once here, we both continued our work. Jolanda started her nail salon in Spain, and Hans remained active in his familiar field: designing and installing bathrooms. But we also knew we had to look ahead. After all, the physical work, such as lugging tiles and cement, doesn't get lighter on its own.

We therefore went looking for a new challenge. During our exploration of the area, we saw more and more opportunities for electric bikes. The Costa Blanca and Costa Calida is a fantastic region to discover by bike: from the coast and charming towns to hilly routes and beautiful rural areas.

That is how the idea for Costa E-bikes came about.

We went looking for reliable suppliers in the Netherlands and eventually, through our website builder Harnold, came into contact with Dutch ID, a Dutch manufacturer of high-quality e-bikes. That turned out to be an important step. The contact with Michael, director of Dutch ID, was particularly pleasant from the very first conversation. We immediately noticed that we attach the same value to quality, reliability, and good service.

The choice was therefore quickly made. We ordered our first 30 e-bikes, and with that, Costa E-bikes was officially born.

We have deliberately chosen high-quality e-bikes from Dutch ID. Perhaps not the cheapest option, but for us, it is the right one. We believe that our customers should be able to count on comfort, reliability, and quality when exploring the Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida.

Two years have passed since then. Costa E-bikes has become much more than just a rental company for us. It is a business we work on with enthusiasm every day, where we can combine our love for Spain, cycling, and hospitality.

We are grateful for the people who helped us along the way and had faith in us. In particular, Harnold, our website builder, and Michael from Dutch ID. Without their help and involvement, Costa E-bikes would not have become what it is today.

We are proud of what we have built together and look to the future with great enthusiasm. Our adventure in Spain is far from over!
